Why donate?

Over the past few years Canada has seen a dramatic increase in Queer refugees crossing borders into the country, seeking safety. For many, recovering from trauma and living in a constant state of precarity is only heightened with the lack of basic necessities and resources. No person should have to flee their home to stay alive. This is the reality for many lgbttq* persons living in countries where their existence is illegal. We welcome our queer family from around the world and know that life after crossing borders presents new and daunting challenges. We can all do our small part to help make the transition to a their new home, one that fosters hope and community.

HOW DOES IT HELP?

All donations goes directly to providing food, housing supplies, other basic necessities, immigration process-related fees, and more.

CHEST BINDER FUND

This initiative aims to reduce individuals at-risk due to gender dysphoria. See below for details on how to request a binder, and how you can help us provide free binders.

What is chest binding?

Chest binding is the act of flattening one's breasts by the use of constrictive materials / compression garments. Binding helps to reduce/eliminate gender dysphoria (distress). Gender dysphoria occurs when an individual identifies with a gender different from the one they were assigned at birth. Individuals experiencing gender dysphoria are at a high risk for stress, isolation, anxiety, depression, poor self-esteem and suicide.

In some cases, some individuals may not have the resources to purchase a binder, specifically one suited to their body type, and therefore resort to unsafe binding practices such as using tensor bandages, duct tape, plastic wrap, and other materials. These binding practices are harmful and can cause permanent damage to one's health and body, and are therefore not encouraged.

Why are commercially manufactured chest binders necessary?

Chest binders sized for an individual's body type and made with high quality materials are available through some online shops or in some local sex shops. These manufactured chest binders are often made with nylon spandex blend and breathable material for safe and comfortable binding. These binders are priced anywhere from $50 - $100 CAD, depending on where they are purchased.

Our commitment to providing absolutely free binders

We would like to be able to provide free binders (yes, 100% FREE) for all individuals who may not have the financial resources to purchase a binder. In order to do this, we need a reliable budget to purchase binders, as well as donations for gently-used binders that are still in safe-to-wear condition.

If you would like to request a binder we ask you to kindly be honest and transparent about your current financial situation. This will help us assess how to best help each and every individual in need. Please note that all requests are on a first-come first-served basis and we are working hard to provide you with a binder as soon as possible.
